Sure, the company hopes to continue to create powerful new product families (iMac, iPod, iPhone), and\u00a0to incrementally improve these, but it also wants to build its recurring income.<\/p>\n<p>The App Store, which has tripled gross revenues in the last three years, is currently Apple\u2019\u2019s biggest earning Services item. It accounts for around $8.6 billion of the $24 billion the services category generated for Apple in FY 2016 (Source: Loup Ventures,\u00a0Bernstein, et al.).<\/p>\n<p>Apple wants to double its services income by 2021. I think that\u2019s a conservative target. I\u2019m not alone in thinking this:\u00a0<span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">App<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Annie\u00a0projects consumers will spend $60 billion at the App Store in FY 2021.<\/p>\n<h3>To infinity and beyond<\/h3>\n<p>To meet its targets, Apple knows it needs to respond to developer complaints, and that is exactly what it has been doing.<\/p>\n<p>App visibility remains a little opaque, but I predict the company will invest in machine intelligence\u00a0<span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">solutions<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(bots?) to help customers find the apps they want, while simultaneously enabling developers to find the customers they deserve.<\/p>\n<p>The App Store is critical to Apple \u2013 though its recent\u00a0Workflow acquisition\u00a0suggests the way we interact will apps will also change, as ambient computing through wearable devices becomes more mainstream.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Origen: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/3186173\/apple-ios\/apple-listens-to-developers-eradicates-free-imitation-at-app-store.html\">Apple listens to developers, eradicates \u2018free\u2019 imitation at App Store | Computerworld<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These changes have come into effect\u00a0since December 2015, when some better known indie developers chose to take their apps away from the Mac\u00a0App Store. \u2026 Why this matters Services are critical to Apple\u2019s future.
