Trying\u2026\u00a0it seems like we didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>I also thought of using english and\/or spanish in the newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Reach is the other question I am considering, given my insecurities, I think:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>is there really people interested in what I think?<\/li>\n<li>is what I think big enough to change the world?<\/li>\n<li>don\u2019t I have a blog to write about my ideas and to link interesting articles?<\/li>\n<li>do I write for myself or for others?<\/li>\n<li>am I just following the newsletter fashion?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course I like others reading my thoughts, but the need to write comes from the need to read longer, deeper, writings than the ones I\u2019ve been reading lately. I need to read not just articles but BOOKS &#x1f4da;<\/p>\n<p>While I write this I am thinking that probably I should leave this trend and keep me true to my blog. You can find me there and subscribe to RSS, or follow the blog\u2026 as it always was possible.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the language\u2026\u00a0I\u2019m going hybrid. English serves me like an exercise and may have more reach (but, again, whom do I want to reach?), but being spanish native speaker I feel more confortable writing in spanish, but it\u2019s weird linking a lot of english articles.<\/p>\n<p>Pero me expreso mucho m\u00e1s c\u00f3modo en castellano. As\u00ed que mezclar\u00e9 ambos idiomas dependiendo de como me venga, no es igual comentar algo en ingl\u00e9s que escribir un texto m\u00e1s personal. Me regalar\u00e9 un \u00faltimo bolet\u00edn.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Paul Weller, el m\u00fasico que me hizo<\/h4>\n<p>El pasado fin de semana disfrut\u00e9 viendo el especial para Sky sobre The Style Council.<\/p>\n<div id=\"youtube2-hfTpi2LZXnM\" class=\"youtube-wrap\" data-attrs=\"{&quot;videoId&quot;:&quot;hfTpi2LZXnM&quot;,&quot;startTime&quot;:null,&quot;endTime&quot;:null}\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/hfTpi2LZXnM?rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;enablejsapi=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Al final, entre esas recomendaciones que te hace youtube, encontr\u00e9 un breve resumen de la carrera de Paul Weller que me gust\u00f3 especialmente:<\/p>\n<div id=\"youtube2-lXZOIQ_GnMc\" class=\"youtube-wrap\" data-attrs=\"{&quot;videoId&quot;:&quot;lXZOIQ_GnMc&quot;,&quot;startTime&quot;:&quot;1096&quot;,&quot;endTime&quot;:null}\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/lXZOIQ_GnMc?start=1096&amp;rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;enablejsapi=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>A consecuencia de escuchar los grupos de ska de los 80 conoc\u00ed el <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mod_(subculture)\">mundillo \u201cmod\u201d<\/a> y fruto de ello el grupo The Jam, que a pesar de encontrarse mucho m\u00e1s cerca del punk, fue elevado a los altares de los Mods; particularmente, a Paul Weller se le llam\u00f3 <strong>\u201cthe modfather\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Yo conoc\u00ed a The Jam pr\u00e1cticamente en su disco de despedida, pero hice un buen trabajo recopilatorio de su vida y milagros, ya que ten\u00eda un primo DJ que viv\u00eda en el piso de abajo que me pasaba el Melody Maker y el New Musical Express, que guardaba muchos meses para desespero de mi t\u00eda, y me permit\u00eda hacer un <em>flashback<\/em> a la historia de la m\u00fasica.<\/p>\n<p>Eso me permiti\u00f3 vivir la historia de The Jam y ya en directo vivir la etapa de Paul Weller al frente de The Style Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfY c\u00f3mo model\u00f3 mi vida un cantante? Me hizo reflexionar sobre pol\u00edtica, con su oposici\u00f3n a los <em>tories<\/em> de Margaret Thatcher, me hizo reflexionar sobre el amor, la desigualdad, la hipocres\u00eda, la inutilidad de las guerras, el racismo, la homofobia, el consumismo\u2026\u00a0con sus letras.<\/p>\n<p>Me hizo ver con otros ojos un movimiento cultural como los <em>mods<\/em>, cuando est\u00e9ticamente se sal\u00eda del \u201crollo est\u00e9tico mod\u201d de la d\u00e9cada 1960, haci\u00e9ndome comprender que \u201cmod\u201d era una <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wordreference.com\/definition\/mod\">abreviatura de \u201cmodern\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>up-to-date;<br \/>\nbeing in the vanguard in style, dress, etc.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>y que no ten\u00eda mucho sentido en los 80 comportarse o vestir como en los 60, porque lo que era moderno en los \u201960 no pod\u00eda serlo en los \u201880, era pura imitaci\u00f3n e inmovilismo.<\/p>\n<p>Parte de la cultura mod, en mi opini\u00f3n, era evolucionar, aceptar otras culturas, otros sonidos, las fusiones\u2026 para mi ser mod era ser ecl\u00e9ctico. Y en ese sentido el segundo album de The Style Council \u201cour favourite shop\u201d fue la gran revelaci\u00f3n para mi.<\/p>\n<p>Como comentan Talbot y Weller, aquella portada recog\u00eda todos sus intereses, pasados y actuales: libros, discos, revistas, ropa, cine, deporte, m\u00fasica, cafeteras, hasta el taco de billar\u2026 y, oye, algunos videos coches cl\u00e1sicos (una afici\u00f3n \u2013s\u00f3lo para verlos\u2013 que he recuperado recientemente).<\/p>\n<p>En aquel entonces ya me gustaba el jazz, afortunadamente a mi padre no le gustaba y mi madre ten\u00eda que ir a los conciertos en los ciclos de jazz en la ciudad por su profesi\u00f3n de periodista, as\u00ed que la acompa\u00f1aba yo. Con Paul Weller y sus entrevistas descubr\u00ed mucha m\u00e1s m\u00fasica y ese af\u00e1n por ir buscando todo lo que mencionaba me hizo llegar a otros estilos o descubrir que el ska de los \u201880 era una recuperaci\u00f3n de un g\u00e9nero anterior, que el ska era en realidad el abuelo del reggae.<\/p>\n<p>De igual manera, por v\u00eda de la participaci\u00f3n de T. S. C. en la banda sonora de Absolute Beginners, yo descubr\u00ed el libro que vino a ensanchar todav\u00eda m\u00e1s mi eclecticismo y me dot\u00f3 de una tolerancia que creo a\u00fan mantengo; de hecho me encuentro a menudo con la paradoja de la tolerancia\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Una cosa curiosa que os contar\u00e1 mi mujer sobre la influencia de P. W. sobre m\u00ed\u2026\u00a0pues que le dije a mi mujer que compart\u00eda la opini\u00f3n de Paul, que traer hijos al mundo era una grand\u00edsima responsabilidad y que yo prefer\u00eda no hacerlo.<\/p>\n<p>Yo jurar\u00eda que la declaraci\u00f3n al respecto se la le\u00ed a \u00e9l. Paul Weller ha acabado con 8 hijos.<\/p>\n<p>Mi media naranja y yo no hemos tenido hijos, aunque conoc\u00ed al hijo de mi mujer con 6 a\u00f1os, ya hace m\u00e1s de 30 y ah\u00ed seguimos como familia. Un buen punto intermedio.<\/p>\n<p>Durante una buena etapa, tuve olvidado al grupo, pero desde hace un par de a\u00f1os o algo menos empec\u00e9 a seguirlos em redes sociales y vi que todav\u00eda compart\u00edamos muchas ideas, no solo con ellos, en uchas ocasiones con otros seguidores de sus redes.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimamente tengo a menudo sus temas en mi cabeza y me est\u00e1 encantando volver a escucharlos.<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Is there a way in which a deeply polarized society like the U.S. could ever agree on what a healthy national conversation looks like?<\/h4>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exponentialview.co\/p\/ev-316\">Exponential View\u2019s newsletter<\/a> last week (Apr, 4th) I read about the <a href=\"https:\/\/nickclegg.medium.com\/you-and-the-algorithm-it-takes-two-to-tango-7722b19aa1c2\">medium post by Nick Clegg<\/a>, Vice President for Global Affairs at Facebook:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cShould a private company be intervening to shape the ideas that flow across its systems, above and beyond the prevention of serious harms like incitement to violence and harassment?\u201d Clegg asks. \u201cIf so, who should make that decision? Should it be determined by an independent group of experts? <em><strong>Should governments set out what kinds of conversation citizens are allowed to participate in? Is there a way in which a deeply polarized society like the U.S. could ever agree on what a healthy national conversation looks like? How do we account for the fact that the internet is borderless and speech rules will need to accommodate a multiplicity of cultural perspectives?<\/strong><\/em>\u201d I am quoting these questions at length because they are the right questions we should be asking.<\/p>\n<p>Clegg might fail to persuade us that Facebook is the right person to answer but that doesn\u2019t change the fact that we need to be actively finding answers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s not just the US society, but worldwide. That\u2019s the reason for wars, because a minority will not be questioned, but half the country or half the continent or half the world will be (by the other half).<\/p>\n<p>Do we have to defend and be able to keep freedom of speech, but is there any limit to be set?
