He termed this \u00abconspicuous consumption\u00bb.&nbsp;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.project-syndicate.org\/commentary\/the-moral-shortcomings-of-conspicuous-consumption-by-peter-singer\">Why Pay More? by Peter Singer &#8211; Project Syndicate<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>We can adapt that judgment to the man or woman who wears a $30,000 watch or buys similar luxury goods, like a $12,000 handbag. Essentially, such a person is saying; \u201cI am either extraordinarily ignorant, or just plain selfish.
